Recently I had the pleasure of working with Jamaican photographer, Marlon James . When we first met, he told me he'd always been intrigued by Muslim women and had never photographed a Muslim woman before. He showed me a photo of Yuna and told me he loved her style. I was delighted because Yuna is one of my favorite Muslim women, musically and style-wise. In that sense, Marlon and I had already clicked. We shared many lovely ideas and unavoidably got into the nitty gritty of women in Islam.
Marlon wanted special lighting for this shoot, and I agreed as I had not previously done a shoot with this particular lighting setup. In the end, I'm happy to have made working with a Muslimah a possibility in Marlon's photography career.
